I caught this song, "Halocene", one night in a half-asleep/half-awakened state, but with its melodic, enchanting grace, I was brought to full alertness. Its minimal and achingly fragile harmonies soars and glides, entrancing you with its slow-burning and other-worldly touches. Without a doubt, Bon Iver was in the zone during this outstanding performance, tapping into unseen realms. Having researched the lyrics, I was quite impressed by the elasticity of meaning--it can be melancholic, epiphanic or nuanced, or all of the above. It leaves one guessing what exactly they're singing about, but notwithstanding this dilemma, you can't help but feel strangely transported.
