Baltimore: Anatomy of an American City

 .
.

This is truly a sad & tragic documentary of the some of the most vulnerable & neglected members of US society. I was elated that Michelle Alexander & Ed Burns were consulted for their keen observations and analysis. The people who were interviewed in the street were also on point with regards to the politics and economics of their condition. It is absolutely essential that you read Michelle Alexander's chilling & devastating classic' "The New Jim Crow" which provides a detailed breakdown of how the spiral of misery, poverty & death evolved which this documentary briefly touches upon.

"So no. I don’t think we’re being cynical. I think we’re being factual. We’ve been fighting the drug war for 30 years. Thirty years of failure. But there’s some reason that we persist in this. What is it? We never explore why that is. But you just can’t spend this much money and get these few results and continue on like this. Someone has to start wondering what the fuck is going on." ~~Ed Burns
