Sheer Good Fortune: Celebrating Toni Morrison

This woman is an angel to me - a fiery spirit in the flesh. Her power & poise are just incredible. Her stories will shatter you - literally. Pick any of her works and find yourself in the world of an artistic genius. You truly feel your own humanity through her work. One of my goals is to one day re-read all of her books. 

 Here are a few morsels of Morrison's inestimable depth:

Make a difference about something other than yourselves.

All water has a perfect memory and is forever trying to get back to where it was.

 In this country American means white. Everybody else has to hyphenate.

Love is or it ain't. Thin love ain't love at all.

I like marriage. The idea. 

 If you're going to hold someone down you're going to have to hold on by the other end of the chain. You are confined by your own repression.

 There is really nothing more to say-except why. But since why is difficult to handle, one must take refuge in how.

 Black people are victims of an enormous amount of violence. None of those things can take place without the complicity of the people who run the schools and the city.
